Block Funding - Book Publishers

The BC Arts Council recognizes the cultural value of the literary arts and the important role of the publishing industry, through which audiences access authors’ works. The Block Funding for Book Publishers supports the provincial publishing industry by providing funding to established, eligible B.C. publishers to publish the work of Canadian and British Columbian authors.

Block Funding for Book Publishers awards are based on two elements:

  • Base funding is formula-based and determined by the average number of eligible titles a publisher has produced over two years, factored by average industry category deficits
  • Merit funding is determined by the Jury’s assessment of the publisher’s program.
