PREMIER APPOINTS KEVIN KRUEGER AS MINISTER RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ARTS
VICTORIA - On June 10, 2009, Premier Gordon Campbell appointed Kamloops-South Thompson MLA Kevin Krueger as Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts.
“Arts and culture play a key role in making B.C. such an attractive place to live, work and visit. I believe that a strong and vibrant arts sector is essential to attracting business, industry and tourism to B.C.” said Krueger.
Krueger began his political career in 1996, when he won his seat as MLA for Kamloops-North Thompson and since that time has continued to be re-elected. During his time in opposition, he served as the official opposition critic for Gaming, Labour, and the Workers Compensation Board, now known as Worksafe BC.
Since 2001, Krueger has held a number of government positions, including Government Caucus Whip, Minister of State for Mining, Minister of Small Business and Revenue, as well as Minister Responsible for Regulatory Reform. Prior to the 2009 election, Krueger served as Minister of Community Development.
In addition to his political career, Krueger has been very active in his community. His involvement has included the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce and the Kamloops Community Counterattack Committee. As well, Krueger served as president of the Rotary Club, coordinator with the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and secretary of the Protocol Committee for the 1993 Canada Summer Games.
“I recognize how important the arts are to communities,” Krueger said. “In my hometown of Kamloops we have a vital and flourishing arts community. With support, in part, from organizations like the BC Arts Council, Kamloops is home to numerous galleries, arts festivals, music and theatre groups, and a thriving arts Council.”
Krueger and his wife Debbie, a school teacher, have six children, including two daughters-in-law and a son-in-law, and seven grandchildren.
