BUDGET UPDATE

VICTORIA – The BC Arts Council is receiving $7.9 million in program funding for fiscal 2010/11. The Province has projected to maintain this level of program funding through to 2012/13.

This $7.9 million in program funding goes directly to artists and art organizations through Council’s 37 peer-adjudicated programs. The Council also has a $1.448-million operating budget and additional program funding based on the earnings from the BC Arts and Culture Endowment Fund.

For fiscal 2010/11 Council will provide grants directly to clients through its regular process. Council is currently reviewing its grant programs, with a focus on priorities identified in the 2009-2013 BC Arts Council Strategic Plan. These priorities include supporting:

  • Artistic excellence
  • Individual artists, especially emerging artists
  • Work that involves innovation and experimentation
  • Aboriginal artists and communities

The Province is providing more than $30 million to the arts in B.C. for 2010/11, including the new 2010 Sport and Art Legacy which will provide $10 million a year for three years to the arts.
