$3.8 MILLION FOR ARTISTS, ARTS AND CULTURE GROUPS
VICTORIA – Artists and arts organizations in communities across British Columbia are receiving more than $3.8 million in BC Arts Council grants this month.
The BC Arts Council is awarding funding to over 200 organizations, covering a range of program areas including music, dance, theatre, magazines, community festivals, arts training and professional development.
The council will also help administer the arts portion of the new 2010 Sports and Arts Legacy. The legacy builds on the success of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and the Cultural Olympiad by providing $30 million over three years to enhance opportunities in the arts for all British Columbians.
Since 2001, the council has provided more than $138 million to assist artists and arts and cultural organizations throughout B.C. The council is an independent agency that supports a range of activities including funding for professional artists and arts organizations, community initiatives and public education. All funding applications are evaluated through a peer-review process.
A full list of grant recipients will be posted on the council’s website once recipients have been notified.
