Dana Claxton is Head and an Associate Professor in the Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory with the University of British Columbia.  Previously Ms. Claxton was a Research Chair in Women’s Studies at Simon Fraser University, an Adjunct Professor at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design and an Instructor with Indigenous Media Arts Group. Active in her community, she is a Trustee of the Vancouver Art Gallery and a Mentor for Indigenous Filmmakers and Artists. Previously Ms. Claxton was President of Helen Pitt Gallery, and a Founding Treasurer for both the Aboriginal Screen Producers Association and Indigenous Media Arts Group. She holds a Masters in Liberal Studies from Simon Fraser University and a Certificate in Arts Administration from Spirit Song Native Indian Theatre Group. Ms. Claxton’s family reserve is Wood Mountain Lakota First Nations.

A member of Council since 2021, her current appointment is for a term ending July 31, 2024.
