Taa.uu ‘Yuuwans Nika Collison belongs to the Kay'ahl Laanas of the Haida Nation. She is executive director of Saahlinda Naay (the Haida Gwaii Museum) and has worked in language, arts and culture for over 25 years. Deeply committed to reconciliation, Nika is a senior repatriation negotiator for her Nation, pursuing reparation and relationships with mainstream institutions on a global scale. She consults, publishes and lectures internationally.
Nika serves on the CMA Reconciliation Council, Bank of Canada Indigenous Advisory Circle and the UBC MOA Directors Advisory Council, and is co-chair of the Haida Repatriation Committee. She is a recipient of the international Michael M. Ames Award for Innovative Museum Anthropology from the Council for Museums Anthropology for her work in repatriation and Indigenous scholarship and was named one of the top 10 Cultural Professionals for 2017 by the BC Museums Association. Nika is a life-long Nation-based scholar of all things Haida.
A member of Council since February 26, 2024, her current appointment ends July 31, 2026.
