Indigenous Arts Program Pilot Now Open for Applications

The BC Arts Council is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the Indigenous Arts Program Pilot, a new funding opportunity designed to support Indigenous artists, groups, collectives, and Indigenous-led organizations throughout British Columbia.

Developed with guidance from the Joint Indigenous Arts Advisory Circle and through engagement with Indigenous artists, cultural practitioners, organizations, and communities, the pilot program aims to support Indigenous arts and culture practices, knowledge sharing, community connections, and creative expression.

Funding is available through two streams:

• Individuals and Groups: For Indigenous artists, cultural practitioners, and groups undertaking artistic, cultural, and community-based projects.
• Indigenous-Led Organizations and Collectives: For Indigenous-led non-profit organizations, collectives, and First Nations governing bodies delivering artistic and cultural initiatives that benefit communities.

Funding is available through three grant levels:

• Micro Grants: Up to $5,000
• Mid-Scale Grants: $5,001 to $15,000
• Large-Scale Grants: $15,001 to $25,000

The program supports a range of Indigenous artistic and cultural practices including traditional, contemporary, interdisciplinary, experimental, and community-engaged work.

By launching it as a pilot, the BC Arts Council intends to deliver support and resources into the community and into the hands of artists, while continuing to learn, understand and be responsive to what the needs are into the future. We are excited to hear from applicants and recipients and to respond and learn from this pilot, not only to strengthen the program offering, but to inform our continuing work in reconciliation and accessibility across BC Arts Council programs and policies.
