BC Arts Council Congratulates Sae Hoon (Stan) Chung on Governor General’s Performing Arts Award
The BC Arts Council is proud to congratulate former chair Sae Hoon (Stan) Chung on receiving the 2026 Governor General’s Ramon John Hnatyshyn Award for Voluntarism in the Performing Arts.
The national recognition was accompanied by a National Film Board short, Worlding, directed by former BC Arts Council vice chair, Dana Claxton. The film explores the value of volunteerism, improvisation, participation and belonging as realized through the arts, particularly for young people.
As his term as a member of the BC Arts Council comes to an end, we join the nation in recognizing Sae Hoon’s life-long commitment to leadership and his attention to relationships within arts and culture, as acknowledged with this well-deserved award.
We take Sae Hoon’s words with us, as he remarked in his acceptance speech:
“My work has become less about certainty than responsibility.
Less about proving goodness, more about changing our relationships.
Less about standing in the right place, more about asking — who we stand with.”
