What are subsistence costs?
Subsistence costs are living expenses incurred while undertaking a project, activity, or employment opportunity. Costs can include rent, food, and local transportation.
For budgeting on a funding application, include the best estimate you can forecast for what subsistence costs will be for the duration of the project or opportunity you are proposing to undertake.
You may request up to $2,000 per month to cover subsistence costs. If your projected subsistence costs are lower than $2,000 per month, you should only request for the projected amount.
If a project includes travel
Accommodation and costs in support of travel are not considered subsistence cost and should be accounted for in the appropriate section of your budget.
